Brazilian, born in Mossoró, RN, from an early age Humberto Luiz learned how to combine sounds, always in search of content to give them meaning. He began his career in music as an autodidact, something inherited from his father Luis Sobrinho, troubadour and singer of Brazilian Northeastern sounds.

His main influences are Luiz Gonzaga, Hermeto Pascoal, César Camargo Mariano, Villa-Lobos, Bach, Arthur Maia, Eduardo Taufic, Chick Corea, Egberto Gismonti, Manoca Barreto, Gilson Peranzzetta e Keith Jarrett, some of the strongest inspirations that contributed to his music training.

Humberto Luiz has performed in several areas with recognized versatility as a composer, arranger, music producer, singer, multi-instrumentalist, and as a pianist in solo concerts or integrating bands, choirs and groups from different backgrounds. He worked as a pianist and arranger for Coral Petrobras Natal, and has taken part in the music productions of Harmus Choir. He has also paid special attention to his work with the award-winning jazz band “Brazuka Jazz”.

In 2012 Humberto Luiz made the international release of his solo piano CD and music book called "Brasileiro Para Ouvir e Tocar” (“Brazilian to listen and play”) at the famous festival LISBOA MISTURA, in Lisbon, accompanied by Alexandre Frazao (drums) and Carlos Barreto (acoustic bass), and also in a Master Lecure delivered at UTAD (University of Tras-os-Montes and Alto Douro), when he presented special extracts of this musical work.

Released in 2013 through his website humbertoluiz.com, the Virtual mp3 CD "Cada Vez Mais... Curto" is a work of musical composition in real time with an acoustic piano. The idea of his new Project, "ESPELHO, Um Exercício de Percepção e Arte (MIRROR, An Exercise in Perception and Art) came out from the experimentations with that CD. Working with sound and image, Humberto Luiz artistically explores the contemporary environment of the Internet and its social networks, in a work that will expand into 10 movements around the year 2014.
